What Does a Hygienist Do?

 Who we are

This site was developed to help patients who are seeking alternative treatment to their oral hygiene care.  You will find a directory of hygienists practicing independently, in areas near you.  Each office is independently owned and operated, and our offices are not affiliated. This is a tool to help you find where to get your preventative and periodontal treatment in Colorado.

Sure, we clean teeth, but we do so much more!

In Colorado, dental hygienists have been able to practice without a dentist present since the 1980's.  You may ask what the benefit of such a model may be.  There are many answers to that question.  The easiest being, you just want your teeth cleaned.  Hygienists practicing independently also provide services at a cost lower than most private dental offices, provide less waiting time and work in a setting that is less stressful than that of a general dental office.

It is important that your dental health comes first, so your hygienist will work to communicate with your home dentist, or provide referrals to a dentist that will fit your needs.

Do hygienists bill insurance?

This will depend on which office that you go to.  Most insurance companies will let dental hygienists bill for their sevices, however some do not.  Because insurance is complicated, it is best to talk to your hygienist and find out about your policy.

What if I have dental issues?

If you have any dental treatment needs, your hygienist will refer you for an exam and treatment.
If you do not have a dentist, your hygienist can help you find one.  It is recommended that you see a dentist for an exam on an annual basis.
